Eurotherm keeps Perth Hospital Healthy

THE NEW REFURBISHMENT of the King Edward Hospital in Perth, Western Australia is currently implementing a 2500 Ethernet based I/O control and monitoring system on each floor of the 7 Story Hospital.

The system controls 3 new Fan Coil Units for High dependency, Neonatal and Emergency sections of the hospital. Birthing, Nurseries and Operating Theatre sections are being controlled via Dual Duct boxes and VAV boxes. The choice of the 2500 system was based upon the advanced control capability of the 2500 system. Incorporating the latest technology in communications (Ethernet) to the front end user interface, InTouch software. The 16 Rack system required a redundant computer based SCADA system to monitor the 2500 I/O system, the use of the Ethernet communications eliminated any multiple master conflict, making the implementation of touch screens strategically placed around for local operator interfacing an attractive add on.

Being modular, the 2500 system can be easily added to and modified at any time. Each section of the hospital is controlled independently of each other and if comm's are lost, the sections will continue to be controlled by the local 2500 racks until it is restored. The software package (iTOOLS ), used with the 2500 system allows for easy trouble shooting of system problems, couple this with the minimum of maintenance required and it becomes a very cost effective system, in comparison with other systems that require high maintenance contracts. Independent monitoring and charting of any control point or I/O point can also be carried out within the 2500 system and iTools. This has proved to be a very useful tool in the commissioning of the systems. Other Eurotherm instrumentation for AHU VSD control and compressor control also compliment the whole system by easily being added onto the network giving local operator interface and indication on plant conditions.
